Border Support:

Mattresses with border support offer edge-to-edge comfort across the mattress, ensuring the mattress retains its shape and provides long lasting comfort. Border support also reduces the chance of mattress edge-sink (typically caused by sitting on the edge of the mattress) over a period of time. Border support is provided using several methods, such as foam encasement for the innerspring unit, additional coils near the edge of the mattress, or a tied coil construction.

Coil Count:

This indicates the number of coils used in an innerspring mattress. A high coil count does not necessarily translate into a better quality mattress. Instead, the design of a coil, the gauge of the wire used, and the way the coil is engineered are equally significant indicators of the comfort, support and durability the mattress will provide.

Foam Layers:

Foams are the fabric and upholstery comfort layers between the innersprings and the quilting layers. The foam layers provide additional support and comfort to the innersprings.

Foundation:

Foundation is the term used for "Box Spring." The foundation of the mattress is necessary in providing proper support and lasting comfort to the mattress.

Gauge of Coil:

The gauge of coil is the thickness of the wire used in a mattress and/or foundation coils. A lower gauge of wire denotes a heavier/thicker wire.

No Flip:

No Flip mattress models are those that do not require end-over-end flipping on a regular basis to maintain their warranty. Currently, all brand name mattresses have a no-flip design. No flip mattresses have been designed to provide continuous support without the need to turn them over and use the reverse side of the mattress. Most mattresses will still require side-to-side rotation as outlined in their warranty cards.

Quilt Layers:

The quilt layers are those comfort layers closest to your body. The quilt layers are between the mattress cover and the layers of upholstery and provide initial cushioning.

Size:

Size indicates the sleeping surface dimensions. Size does not take into account the depth (or thickness) of the mattress.

Twin: A mattress that measures 39 inches wide by 75 inches long.
Full (Also known as a Double or Standard mattress): A mattress that measures 54 inches wide by 75 inches long.
